The Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden, will be hosting a jam-packed day of fun to celebrate Roald Dahl's birthday on Saturday 13 September.
We hope you're looking forward to Roald Dahl Day. If you're planning on heading to the Roald Dahl Museum in Great Missenden to celebrate, here's a round-up of all the fun you can expect.
Don't miss the Museum's swashboggling storytellers who will be entertaining the crowds hourly from 11.30am to 4.30pm (you might even get to join in!), and make sure you bump into the roving balloon modeller who'll be able to make you a marvellous creation. There'll also be drop-in crafts, face painting and magic to enjoy, and if you've come in fancy dress our very own Willy Wonka or Oompa-Loompa might just stop you and give you a prize. There's no need to book for these events - you'll see and hear them - and they are all free with Museum admission.
There'll be lots of wondercrump characters at the Museum on Saturday, including Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee. Some of them will be leading tours around the Museum, or through the village to show you the local places that inspired Roald Dahl and feature in the books.
Museum tours are at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, and 3.30pm, and Village Trails are at 11.15am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 2.15pm and 3.15pm. These are free, but you'll need to book your space at the ticket desk on the day.
This year is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's 50 birthday. That's why you'll be able to find out LOTS about the book on Roald Dahl Day. Head to the replica Writing Hut at 12pm, 2pm 3pm and 4pm for a free Charlie Talk about the writing of the story. Or book on to an Archive Tour at 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm (£1 per person, subject to availability, call 01494 892192 to book in advance of the day) to see unpublished chapters from the book. Take a look at displays in Boy gallery to see film props, manuscripts and more.
If that's not enough, you can join in with the free Rubbish Orchestra. What's that I hear you cry! Head to Miss Honey's classroom at 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm to quickly learn a song and dance inspired by Veruca Salt, then head to the courtyard to perform it for all to see!
You can also make a Wondercrump Wonka Bar at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm (£2.50, call 01494 892192 to book tickets in advance of the day)
Phew! There's loads going on. Take a look at the PDF opposite for a full listing on the day's events. We recommend pre-booking for the Museum entry and workshops, you can do this by calling 01494 892192, alternatively you can book Museum entry only online.
