Be mesmerised by marvellous magic
Our magician will be roaming the galleries and courtyard and performing some sensational tricks, just like Matilda. Track them down and prepare to be amazed!
Whizz through 10 Books in 10 Minutes
Join our expert storytellers for this side-splitting session! A fast-paced hop, skip and a jump through 10 of Roald Dahl’s most popular books, with plenty of audience participation and laughs.
Take a peek in the archive
Rachel and Annie, our archive team, will take you into the Chokey (aka the Reading Room!). Take a peek at some of our archive treasures, find out how Roald Dahl wrote his stories by looking at some early drafts of his most popular books, and view a few unusual artifacts such as Roald Dahl’s sweet box. (11.15am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 2.15pm, and 3.15pm. Suitable for 10 years and up, £1 each adults and children, call to book).
Be blown away by balloon modelling
Make sure you pay a visit to the balloon modeller who’ll be making some buzzwangling balloon creations throughout the day.
Get to know Great Missenden
Join our guides on a walk around Great Missenden, the village where Roald Dahl lived and wrote for 36 years. See some of the buildings and landmarks that inspired the author and featured in some of his books.
Become a crackling character
Get your face painted and turn into a butterfly, a tiger or even an Oompa-Loompa!
Get creative in the craft room
Head to George’s Crafty Kitchen to have fun with drop-in crafts. Make a simple moving crocodile or decorate a 2D balloon with foam craft.
Listen to swashboggling storytelling
Our resident storytellers will be punctuating the day with a couple of invigorating sessions at 12.30pm and 4.30pm. Listen to hilarious poems from Roald Dahl’s Dirty Beasts and Revolting Rhymes.
