Mark Oxtoby, aka Jerry from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The New Musical, is running the 2016 London Marathon.
"Hi, Mark Oxtoby here. I am currently playing Jerry in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The New Musical at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London's West End and will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 24th April 2016 for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity.
This will be my third London Marathon and, as a father myself, the work of Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity resonates deeply with me, and I want to be able to do everything I can to make a difference.
Working in a West End show gives me the opportunity to raise money in a very different way. Basically, I'm going to lock all the doors and charge people to leave at the end of the performances! Seriously, though, the management have been great and are allowing me to do bucket collections in the run up to the marathon which is amazing. However, every single penny makes a difference, so if you are able to help this 'Marvellous' charity please do so by donating now.
Training started in January, and although I've had to take a break to recover from having my wisdom teeth removed and man flu (it's a real thing you know!) training is back on track. I'll even be taking my running shoes on holiday in a couple of weeks to make sure I don't miss any runs.
If you need any more of an incentive to donate, just think of the pain and suffering I will be going through during the 26.2 mile distance. As it will be my third London Marathon, I can tell you, it hurts! But it's soooo worth it, and it's nothing compared to what some of the poorly children have to go through.
