Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity celebrates superb results from its year-long partnership with Dunelm.
Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity are delighted today to celebrate the results of their year-long partnership with leading home furnishing retailers Dunelm. These include raising £233,231.15 towards the charity’s work providing specialist children’s nurses and family support for seriously ill children across the UK.
At a special awards ceremony on Tuesday Jodi Betts, a Roald Dahl nurse from Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, and chief executive Jane Miles mingled with Dunelm colleagues and collected a cheque from Dunelm CEO John Browett.
Dunelm CEO John Browett said:
“Our partnership with the Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity has really captured the imagination of the team at Dunelm, and I am delighted to present a cheque for £233,231.15 this evening. I’m extremely proud of the employees from across the business who have pulled out all the stops to raise as much money as possible for an extraordinary charity.”
Colleagues across Dunelm have really thrown themselves into fundraising wholeheartedly, far exceeding the original £120,000 target they had set for themselves. In doing so, they welcomed Marvin, the charity’s marvellous crocodile, to Dunelm stores around the country. They have sold Marvin merchandise; hosted colleague events such as The Dunelm Relay Challenge, 40-day Olympic-style relay challenge. This involved four teams relaying a baton from all four corners of the UK to Dunelm’s headquarters in Syston, near Leicester– they visited a total of 163 locations and covered 4,764 miles, arriving daily at Dunelm stores to take part in events raising an average of £1,000 per day.
Jane Miles, Chief Executive of Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity said:
“Staff at all levels within Dunelm have worked together tirelessly throughout this year to raise money for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. The way that they have worked in partnership with us has been nothing short of inspirational. Over £230,000 has been raised so that the charity could pay for five specialist nurses across the UK to care for up to 1000 seriously ill children and their families this year. Dunelm, our charity partner, is simply Marvellous and on behalf of the children we support we’d like to say a very big thank you."
