Meet Emily Bell, our new Roald Dahl Paediatric Epilepsy/Neurology Specialist Nurse at Darent Valley Hospital.

Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity currently has over 50 Roald Dahl specialist children's nurses who care for over 10,000 seriously ill children and their families each year.

The charity provides funding for the first two years, in return for a commitment from the NHS it partners with to fund the role for a further three years. In most cases, most specialist nurses prove that their role is of such value to the children and families in their care, that the NHS Trusts agree to fund the positions well beyond the agreement period.

One of the newest editions to the marvellous Roald Dahl nursing community is Emily Bell. She recently started as a children's epilepsy and neurology specialist at Darent Valley Hospital.

Emily will work with the children and families affected by epilepsy and neurological conditions, by producing tailored care plans to ensure individual needs are met. Other areas of Emily's role will include working with children and young people who have recently been diagnosed with epilepsy and she will work within the community to offer further support.

Emily will liaise with families by conducting telephone consultations, which reduce hospital visits and ensure that plans and progress can be monitored.

When asked what excited Emily most about the role she said, "I'm excited to offer the best possible service to patients and their families. The charity also provides ongoing training and support to all its nurses so I feel very grateful to be one of them."
