Roald Dahl Nurses at Explore Learning

Explore Learning, providers of Maths and English tuition, invited Roald Dahl Nurses to talk to children about their role's as specialist children's nurses.

Explore Learning, providers of maths and English tuition at centres across the UK are marvellous supporters of Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity. Their staff have taken part in numerous fundraising activities to raise over £23,000 since the partnership launched in 2016. They have also kindly provided free tuition to seriously ill children and siblings of families Roald Dahl Nurses support.

Recently, Explore Learning invited Roald Dahl Nurses, who are funded by the charity and care for seriously ill children and families across the UK to their centres, so that they could talk to children about what they do.

This marvellous invite coincides with Explore Learning's National Young Writers' competition which encourages children to write about their heroes. This year, the competition celebrates real-life heroes such as nurses, teachers, and firefighters, so it was very fitting that our marvellous nurses, who make such a difference to the lives of in excess of 18,600 children and families, were invited to talk.

Several Roald Dahl Nurses attended, including Roald Dahl Nurse Elizabeth who cares for children and families affected by Sickle Cell Anaemia in Bedfordshire. She inspired children by showing them some of the medical supplies she works with on a daily basis, helping the children to understand what's involved in her role as a specialist nurse. The children and nurses alike thoroughly enjoyed the experience and many wonderful stories were produced for the competition as a result.

Roald Dahl Nurse Liz said, "It was really interesting to see how keen the children were to ask questions, share their ideas and help each other."

Roald Dahl Nurse Natalie said, "It was a delight and a privilege to help the children with their creative writing, and as always, to talk about the work I do."

Roald Dahl Nurse Hannah said, "Some of the children were writing stories about a children's epilepsy nurse, it was very touching."

Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity is incredibly grateful for the support it receives from marvellous organisations like Explore Learning.
