Cristina who works for Explore Learning, providers of Maths and English tuition, talks about why she has become a marvellous volunteer and fundraiser.

Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity receives incredible support from marvellous volunteers and fundraisers like Cristina. She works for Explore learning, Maths and English tuition providers who are also a charity partner. Cristina talks to the charity about what inspired her to give her time to help the charity and what her future plans for support are.

Q. Tell us a bit about you

A. I'm Christina, I'm 25 and have been working at Explore Learning in Wolverhampton for just over 2 years. I do a lot of fundraising and charity work and I'm currently an ambassador for a mental health project too.

Q. When and why did you get involved with Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity?

A. I think it was around my sixth month at Explore Learning when I found out about the charity being part of a party at Birmingham Children's Hospital and they were looking for volunteers. I thought it sounded like an excellent opportunity and once I has been and volunteered, I knew I had to be involved.

Q. What volunteering and fundraising have you done so far?

A. I've volunteered at two parties at Birmingham Children's Hospital, held a fancy dress and cake sale day and hosted a decorate your own cakes and raffle afternoon. I have also held a Christmas jumper, cake sale and Christmas hamper day.

Q. What has been your favourite part of volunteering and fundraising?

A. With fundraising, it has been getting the whole team on board and with volunteering, it has been seeing all the children's faces light-up.

Q. Have you learned anything or gained any new skills as a result of your participation?

A. I learned a lot about rare diseases and the work Birmingham Children's Hospital and Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity do. I've also gained the ability to plan events and successfully see them through.

Q. What volunteering and fundraising have you got planned for 2018? I've got a fancy-dress day planned for February half term. I'm looking to help at some more of the children's parties too. I'm also looking at getting the whole Wolverhampton team involved in some sort of fun run.

Q. What advice can you give to other volunteers and fundraisers?

A. Go for it! I know a few people who have been hesitant to get in both volunteering and fundraising. It is honestly the most fulfilling thing you can do and to see how the money raised helps other, just makes any stress that comes with planning worthwhile.

Q. Can you summarise your experience of volunteering and fundraising in 3 words?

A. Amazing, fulfilling and life-changing.
