Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity host an epilepsy workshop for Roald Dahl Nurses who provide specialist care for children and young people affected by the condition.
On Friday 15 June Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity hosted a marvellous workshop for its Roald Dahl Epilepsy Nurses in London at the Barrow Cadbury Trust. Over 20 Roald Dahl Epilepsy Nurses attended the event which is part of the Roald Dahl Professional Development Package. This helps Roald Dahl Nurses to develop their career and their service, with support from Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity. Every one of the 62 Roald Dahl Nurses in our marvellous community of healthcare professionals have access to this package.
The workshop provided an opportunity for the nurses to network and share best practice with each other. It also provided the charity with information about how to support the nurses further and help to make a difference to the children, young people and families in their care. The workshop was also a wonderful way for new Roald Dahl Epilepsy Nurses to learn from existing Roald Dahl Nurses and broaden their learning.
Roald Dahl Nurses were asked to reflect on their service, to help identify challenges, aspirations and what support they need from the charity to achieve these. Roald Dahl Epilepsy Nurses from across the country took part in these discussions, learning more about how they can work to provide the best possible healthcare for seriously ill children affected by epilepsy.
The day was led by staff from the charity as well as Roald Dahl Nurses such as Kirsten who supports families at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We were also delighted to be joined by Calvin Down from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health who talked about the Epilepsy12 audit and the role it plays in paediatric epilepsy care. The Roald Dahl Nurses who attended had a marvellous day and found the workshop to be very beneficial to their roles. One Roald Dahl Nurse said, "It was really helpful to meet the other Roald Dahl Epilepsy Nurses as there is such a support network available. Services are different around the country but there is so much in common in terms of challenges, but also so much to learn from each other."
We would like to thank everyone who made this workshop such a marvellous success. If you would like to help Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity continue to provide training and support for Roald Dahl Nurses, make a donation or find out how you can get involved today.
