The Roald Dahl Museum galleries are closed until further notice due to flood damage. The Shop and Cafe remain open.

Following the flash floods in Great Missenden over the late May Bank Holiday weekend, the Roald Dahl Museum galleries are currently closed until further notice.

The good news is that the flood damage was limited to one end of the site and Roald Dahl’s archive and Writing Hut were untouched. However, the most affected gallery will need a full refit, to guard against long-term water damage. We’re working hard to plan and schedule in this unexpected work and look forward to reopening looking smarter than ever.

Anyone who has booked tickets will be contacted for a refund.

Shop and Cafe open

The Museum Shop, a treasure-trove of Roald Dahl books, toys, games and gifts remains open Tuesday to Friday, from 10am to 5pm, alongside other independent gift stores and boutiques in the village. Get kitted out for summer with a giant peach t-shirt, a Matilda picnic lunch bag, and a BFG waterbottle.

You can also still buy lots of fantabulous Roald Dahl goodies online.

The Cafe at the Museum is open Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 5pm (and Saturdays as well soon – look out for updates), serving freshly-made lunches and snacks, and a delumptious selection of home-made cookies and cakes. Try a slice of Bogtrotter cake washed down with a swishwiffler… but please, keep your whizzpops to yourself!

Roald Dahl Country

Great Missenden remains a great place for all Roald Dahl fans to visit, to walk the historic High Street and the beautiful Buckinghamshire woods in the author’s footsteps. Visitors can still pick up the Museum’s Village and Countryside Trail leaflets to explore the places that inspired Roald Dahl and appear in the stories. The Countryside Trail is a wonderful hour-long stroll, great for all ages, through the fields and beech woods in the heart of Roald Dahl Country.
