Zaris-Angel Hator, a sickle cell patient under the care of a Roald Dahl Specialist Nurse encourages schoolchildren to dress up as Roald Dahl characters to raise money for Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
Real-life Matilda, Zaris-Angel was inspired and empowered by her Roald Dahl Nurse, Edith, to manage her condition and secure her West End role in 2016 and she is now encouraging children around the UK to dress up as Roald Dahl characters to raise money for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity.
Children all around the UK take part in the charity's annual dress up day which takes place on any day from Roald Dahl Day (13th September). Children dress up as any Roald Dahl character they like and pay £1 to raise money for the charity, which helps seriously ill children lead a marvellous life. Zaris-Angel's Roald Dahl Nurse, Edith is one of over 75 Specialist Roald Dahl Nurses who care for over 21,000 seriously ill children across the UK.
Zaris said: “I love reading and am a huge Roald Dahl fan so it is really special to be looked after by a Roald Dahl Nurse. Edith has really helped me understand and manage my condition and it felt like destiny when I was offered the role of Matilda, one of my favourite all-time characters! Dressing up as Matilda, Sophie, the BFG or Charlie is a really fun thing to do and you can help raise money for more marvellous nurses, just like Edith!”
Roald Dahl Nurse, Edith, Whittington Hospital, London said: “Zaris embodies all of Matilda’s traits – she’s brave, smart and fearless – so she was absolutely perfect for the role! She’s had to deal with some big challenges with her health but she’s been a fantastic patient and an inspiration to me and her peers. Roald Dahl Day is an excellent opportunity to have some fun through dressing up and raise money for this marvellous cause.”
Zaris-Angel (15) is also a TV actress and has appeared in Victoria, Endeavour and the adaptation of David Walliam’s, The Midnight Gang.
