For children affected by spina bifida
Spina bifida is a birth defect which has a profound effect upon a person's life, affecting many parts of the body and causing mobility problems. Most people with spina bifida will also have hydrocephalus, where learning difficulties arise due to pressure building up in the brain causing injury.
That's why Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity is working in partnership with Shine to help families affected by spina bifida to share their experiences and knowledge to help other families.
This project aims to increase knowledge and acceptance, and reduce isolation for families affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Shine will work with families who have coped well and found ways to help their child lead a full live (for example making friends, learning new things) as well as tips about health issues and care.
These families will share their experiences through newsletters, video clips and a young children's club with multi-media presentations to help children learn more about their conditions. There will also be a national campaign to invite families affected by spina bifida to use social media and video clips to share their experiences with others too.
