Information about the operatic adaptations of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox and The Golden Ticket
The commissions have enjoyed great success and are both available for opera companies to license.
Nine sold out performances and audiences of over 25,000 testify to the success of the premiere production of Fantastic Mr Fox by Tobias Picker, with libretto by Donald Sturrock. It debuted at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles in December 1998 in a production starring Gerald Finley and with designs by Gerald Scarfe.
Since then the piece has travelled with English Touring Opera and been staged at Opera Holland Park in an outdoor promenade production. In 2014, the piece forms part of the inaugural Opera San Antonio season in Texas.
Commissioned by American Lyric Theatre and Roald Dahl's wife Felicity "Liccy" Dahl, The Golden Ticket is a comic opera by Peter Ash based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
After four years of workshops at the National Theatre in London, The Golden Ticket received its world premiere at Opera Theatre St Louis in 2010 and has since been presented at Wexford Festival Opera (2010) and Atlanta Opera (2012).
