Two of Roald Dahl's much-loved children's stories - Fantastic Mr Fox and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - have been adapted as operas.

The commissions have enjoyed great success and are both available for opera companies to license.

Fantastic Mr Fox

Nine sold out performances and audiences of over 25,000 testify to the success of the premiere production of Fantastic Mr Fox by Tobias Picker, with libretto by Donald Sturrock. It debuted at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles in December 1998 in a production starring Gerald Finley and with designs by Gerald Scarfe.

Since then the piece has travelled with English Touring Opera and been staged at Opera Holland Park in an outdoor promenade production. In 2014, the piece forms part of the inaugural Opera San Antonio season in Texas.
