Charlie Bucket's life is about to change forever, thanks to one miraculous moment! Willy Wonka, chocolate maker extraordinaire, has hidden five Golden Tickets in five ordinary bars of chocolate, and any child who finds one will get the chance to visit his incredible factory. And Charlie has found one… but so have Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde and Mike Teavee. With a chocolate river, delectable confectionery and mysterious Oompa-Loompas, Willy Wonka's factory is the most wondrous place Charlie has ever seen.
Meet the characters
Charlie Bucket
Charlie Bucket is a kind-hearted boy who lives with his family (including all four grandparents) in a little wooden house. What he craves more than anything in the world… is chocolate. One day, Charlie’s luck changes as he finds a Golden Ticket, and has the once in a lifetime opportunity to visit Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
Willy Wonka
Willy Wonka is extraordinary. He’s a chocolate-making genius who relishes nonsense and mischief. His imagination is like no other, having invented the most weird, wacky, and wonderful sweets that this world has ever seen. Yet even though he is the most famous chocolate-maker in the world, Wonka is still something of a mystery.
Augustus Gloop
Augustus loves to eat - in fact, he eats so much chocolate that it would have been impossible for him not to find one of the Golden Tickets. Once inside Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, he’s so keen to get started that he very nearly meets a sticky end.
Veruca Salt
Spoiled Veruca’s parents give her everything she wants - including a Golden Ticket. But when she sets her sights on one of Willy Wonka’s trained squirrels, she and her parents meet a rather unpleasant end.
Violet Beauregarde
Violet is a competitive girl, who takes great pride in her record-breaking gum-chewing abilities. Determined to be the first person in the world to try Willy Wonka’s three-course chewing gum, she pays no attention to whether the confection is quite ready for consumption.
Mike Teavee
Mike is far more interested in TV and technology than chocolate - and so he ignores Willy Wonka’s warnings and attempts to send himself by television, but it’s a big move that leads to a rather small result.
The Oompa-Loompas
Originally from Loompaland, the Oompa-Loompas help Willy Wonka keep his chocolate factory running. They enjoy singing and dancing, and seem to have a song ready for any eventuality…
